We are so quick to point out our failures & focus on our slip ups, on our sinkings, on our shortcomings, on our doubts. & we go over in our heads about what we are lacking & what we did wrong & what we could have done differently.
It’s true, right? That’s what we do with Peter on the water. & that’s what we do to ourselves.
but before we get trapped in the critique, please recognize: PETER IS THE ONLY ONE WHO GOT OUT OF THE BOAT!!
He is the only one who tried, who did SOMETHING. He is the only one that experienced & accomplished something new & something different & something better! & He was the one who made it closer to Christ b/c of it all.
Like most things, the adversary skews our perspective– to see it all wrong to get us to feel bad about our efforts so we will stop making them.
It’s a dangerously subtly game with the adversary battled within the chambers of our own mind
He shifts our focus off the good, off the progress, off of Him to on all that is around us & tells us that other things are worthy of concern, of time,
We focus on & then start believing that we failed. And our efforts are good enough or that we are not good enough, or that the waves are too big, the thunder is too loud, or that Christ is too far, or what we are trying to do is too impossible.
Do not linger longer in the adversary’s unhealthy & inaccurate perspectiveto get us to slow down, to stop trying, to retreat, to give up, to stay put, to sit still, to stand still to STAY ON THE BOAT, & to keep our distance from Christ.
It’s his winning game to wear the negative lens & pose the question about Peter & about ourselves: Look how he failed, look what he did wrong, how can we not be like that?
When really, how can we be MORE like Peter?! The only one who tried. The only one got off. The only one who stepped.
Your efforts, your small steps forward may only seem like slip ups & failures BUT PLEASE RECOGNIZE they are getting you to do something new, something hard, something seemingly impossible!
Even the slip ups & the smallest of steps are getting you closer to Christ.
